Quantum Computing as a Service (QCaaS) is a cloud-based delivery mechanism that enables enterprises to access quantum computing resources. A growing number of providers exist to supply such services. Two large companies recently moved to upgrade their ability to provide QCaaS to their customer base.

OVHcloud 

European cloud provider OVHcloud has bought its first quantum computer from the French company Quandela. The 2-qubit MosaiQ quantum computer uses a photonic processor.

According to OVHCloud, this will provide its research and development department with the tools needed to experiment with a quantum processing unit (QPU) based machine for different use cases. 

It will also enable the company to launch new research and development initiatives, reaffirming its support of the expanding quantum computing ecosystem

The new quantum computer complements the company's plan from last summer to provide QCaaS through several emulators, including a programming framework created by Quandela named Perceval.

Oxford Quantum Circuits/Equinix

U.S. data center and connectivity specialist Equinix and U.K.-based QCaaS provider Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC) have announced their intention to make one of the most powerful quantum computers commercially available globally using Equinix's TY11 Tokyo International Business Exchange data center.

OQC is installing its quantum hardware in TY11 and plans to use Equinix Fabric, Equinix's on-demand interconnection solution, to make its QCaaS available to companies worldwide on Equinix's global platform in late 2023.

Businesses with cloud-based access to quantum computing will benefit as if they were connected to Equinix Fabric on their premises. This capability will enable them to experiment with cutting-edge technology with greater security and ease, allowing them to directly connect to QCaaS within their own digital infrastructure.

Both developments exemplify the speed with which QCaaS is advancing. Given its capabilities, QCaaS is slated to become indispensable for a wide range of industries, from drug discovery and development to risk management, banking, and advanced manufacturing.
